Product description

Konus KONUSTART-900B (#1738) is a reliable amateur telescope from a proven Italian brand. It is intended for studying the disks of the planets and the detailed study of the topography of the Moon, but thanks to the rotating lens it can be successfully used for ground observations.

It is installed on the equatorial mounting of the German type with an electric drive along the clock axis. With correct polar adjustment, the motorized EQ mount will automatically keep the selected object in the tube's field of view. Compared to manual tracking of objects, the use of an electric motor provides smoother movement and stability of the pipe position.

The motor rotation speed required to compensate for the Earth's rotation is factory set for the KONUSTART-900B 60/900 EQ2 telescope. However, it can be changed manually using the regulator on the motor housing: this can be useful when taking pictures at high shutter speeds. Manual adjustment of fine movements along the tilt axis is also permissible, but during the first experiments with the telescope, this will most likely not be necessary.

The mount with optical tube and counterweight is fixed on a metal tripod with stable extendable legs. The device is equipped with an electric focuser for ease of focusing and elimination of slight fluctuations that occur during manual focusing.

Thanks to a decent focal length (900 m), this refractor, even with medium focus glasses from the set (8 and 20 mm), will give an increase of 113x and 45x, respectively. With the use of a Barlow lens, these values can be doubled, but the gain in multiplicity will significantly affect the quality of the picture. For terrestrial observations using a rotating lens, the telescope magnification will be 170x (with an H8 eyepiece) or 68x (with an H20 eyepiece). In cases where maintaining horizontal orientation (left / right) is not essential, it is more convenient to use a diagonal mirror to rotate the picture "from head to toe".

Thanks to the included smartphone holder, the Konus KONUSTART-900B refractor will be a good choice for those who have dreamed of trying their hand at "portrait" astrophotography. By holding a smartphone to the eyepiece of a telescope, you can take photos of bright astronomical objects in acceptable quality. The only condition is that the camera eye must be located strictly in the center of the eyepiece: the adapter from the kit is intended for stationary fixation of the gadget.
