KONUS Academy-2 is an updated model of the Konus Academy monocular student microscope. It differs from its predecessor in more modern LED illumination, it can operate not only from the network, but also from batteries and even ordinary batteries.
The basic set of the device includes a good 10x eyepiece with violet illumination and four parfocal achromatic objectives: "dry" 4x, 10x, 40x and immersion 100x. Thus, the working range of multiplicity is from 40 to 1000x.
The KONUS Academy-2 40x-1000x microscope has all the qualities necessary for laboratory optics: a high degree of aberration correction, focusing accuracy and micrometric calipers for moving the slide. The fine and coarse adjustment screws are separate, for ease of control each of them is duplicated on the opposite side of the case.
Focusing is carried out by moving the specimen platform vertically. To prevent crushing of the cover glass, powerful objectives (40x, 100x) are equipped with spring heads, and the design of the specimen stage has a screw stopper that blocks the table movement.
For precise centering of the preparations under the objective, a preparation mover with Vernier coordinate scales is installed on the tabletop. The range of smooth movement of the slide is 7.3 cm in width and 2 cm in depth; coaxial micrometric regulators under the right hand are responsible for controlling the movement.
Below the specimen platform, a high-aperture condenser with an iris diaphragm for correcting the shape of the light cone and a filter holder are mounted. Complete light filters will be useful when working with translucent and slightly colored materials: their use will help improve the contrast of the visible image.
When studying samples, the slide is illuminated from below by an LED with a neutral color temperature: the LED backlight consumes very little energy and does not heat the preparation during prolonged viewing. Thanks to the built-in dimmer, the intensity of the diode glow is smoothly adjusted by rotating the drum at the base of the housing.
The metal housing of the microscope, with a massive base and a reinforced tripod profile, is stable and durable. In the laboratory, it will withstand any loads: frequent movements, accidental shocks, etc. The main thing is to protect the fragile glass optics from mechanical influences.
Without a doubt, even in the basic configuration, the KONUS Academy-2 40x-1000x biological microscope will be an excellent solution for student and small diagnostic laboratories. At the same time, thanks to the ease of settings, ease of use and the possibility of adding a smartphone adapter (on request), the model will successfully cope with the role of a home educational microscope.
